ROCKWELL COLLINS 851S-1 HF RECEIVER

The story of my restoring

A just arrived receiver, Rockwell Collins 851S-1, looks like the condition of styling a junk.

The chassis and the front panel of the 851S-1 seem to be the face of boxers after fighting hard.

After disorganizing the unit of 851S-1, the chassis is now under sheet metal working. Finally it looks fairly cosmetic.

Those are the cable assemblies in the bottom surface. There are so many installed PCBs (Parts Card Boards) in the unit of 851S-1.

It is the reverse of the control panel.

These are the filter boards with the IF (Intermediate Frequency) board.

These are the boards of the VBFO and the AF (Receive Audio) board.

The restoration of chassis has just completed to sheet.

Let's get started to install PCBs and the power supply component.

The installation of PCBs has completed successfully to be inserted.

The following photos introduce the procedure to correct and modify the failed PCBs of the synthesizer in the 851S-1.
Immediately the trial of tracking coils and trimmers in the VCO are easy without the extension board.

The malfunction is however left yet. Then, I made my decision to build an extension board for the efficient maintenance, through working best to construct.

It needed the additional synthesizer decade to work the 10 Hz resolution through modifying the synthesizer decade of 100 KHz for HF-80 series that I bought at the
Fair Radio Sales Co.

The whole job to restore and adjust the 851S-1 has been done successfull.
